Clay face


Hi all! Happy New Year! My new motto for this year, 2013 is:

"If you don't work to build your dreams, you will work to build someone else's dreams."

So this year my focus is MY dreams and that  includes creative, artistic endeavors. 

One of my goals has been to work/play with a little clay and yesterday
I was driving by one of those paint your own pottery shops and I thought I would stop in to check it out, as I have never been there before. I met the owner and began talking to her about different kinds of clay and it so happened she had extra clay she could sell.
Perfect! So I walked away with a handful and a start :)

I also have begun reading this book: The Artist Way by Julia Cameron


So I raise my cup of coffee to all of you and say, "Here is to more creative time for all of us!"

    What a wonderful clay face!! I have a similar new years promise to myself. I have many ideas, but sometimes have a bit of trouble getting started. I don't know why that is, since I love making art. I think your new book is a great tool for keeping one on track!

    Hi Dulcy,

    This is my first try with this clay and without real tools to work with his little face is a bit wonky,
    but I am having great fun :)
    I know it is such a challenge to get moving in that creative direction. I have resolved I will do it 1 inch at a time :)

    Love the face! I fell in love with pottery in Jr. High and then took pottery classes (in the early 1970's and the late 1990's). It was very special times for me. Enjoy that.
    I just read that quote a day or so ago!! Love it :) I have always intended to get further in the Artist's Way (beyond the morning pages and date with myself). Maybe I'll pull out my copy!

      It is so relaxing to create with clay and gives me a sense of connecting with earth.
      At my age I finally realize that if I do not start building my own dreams I will forever work for someone else...no thanks!
      Time for me to get busy :)
      I have started the Artist's Way book a long while ago (a friend loaned it to me.) This copy is mine so I am more inclined to get through it in my own time. xo

    Great start to a new year! Love the face...I have been wanting to do some work in clay too! Might make some tiny owls to start with....love Julia's books. Always inspiring and great quotes to get you moving.

    A very important goal and a wonderful beginning. I've read several of Julia Cameron's books, some good ideas there.
