mmm...Pumpkin Pie

Yippe! I have had two days off in a row and I am on day 2. I have been stitching like crazy to finish the baby quilt. The shower is next weekend and I will be working all week. Yikes! Lot's to do today...

(Ok, I know the picture of the pie is not that beautiful, but when I moved the pie from the pan the crust crumbled off...it really is delicious.)

....and yes, I did eat this piece right after I took the picture : )
I decided to bake brownies for my children (sorry no pictures, already gone : ),  and a homemade pumpkin pie for me : )

I  made my pie from (mostly) scratch and changed the recipe ever so slightly. I used brown sugar instead of white sugar by cutting the sugar from  3/4 cup to 1/2. I used this recipe:

I opened the freezer and no ready made pie crust...so, I went cruising around the internet and found the best pie crust ever! This is the easiest pie crust I have ever made....check it out...

This pie crust is light and flakey, just the way I like it.

Now back to the quilt....

I asked the new mom what some of her "love names" or phrases were for the new baby and she gave me a few....

I stitched "handsome boy".....

"hungry, hungry hippo"

and a few more words of endearment were stitched on.

Today I am going to attach the front to the back.

The green/white flannel gingham fabric on the left is the backing.
I found this twin sheet while thrifting. A mere $2.00. You could not
buy that much  flannel fabric at the Fabric store for $2.00!
I love the idea of recycling and the fabric is already softened.

  1. Just lovely! Instead of pie, I have all the ingredients for walnut fudge brownies. It's the perfect day to make some!

  3. I love pumpkin pie. I have some fresh pumpkin in the freezer. I should make some this week. I have never put sugar in pie crust before. Did you think this worked well? Sometimes pie crust can bake too quickly before the filling is done. Also be sure to bake your pie crust first before adding the filling. I use beans in the bottom of the pie crust when baking the first time, for pie weights, as well as poking it.

The quilt is the most loving thing I have ever seen anyone get for a baby shower. You are a blessing!!!

    1. Hi Becky,

I put brown sugar in the pumpkin, not the crust. I have put a little sugar in the pie crust before and it is good, but I am trying to cut back on sweet. I always put the crust in the oven for a few minutes before I fill it with whatever filling. Love to make chicken pot pie too.
The quilts you sent are the most loving thing! We enjoy them everyday!
Thank you for your kind words. xoxo

  4. The quilt looks lovely and so sweet for the babe :)
Way back when...I used to use the Tupperware pie crust recipe. Just put everything in the bowl, lid on - 'burp' it and shake, shake, shake!!! It was Always good :)

  6. Hi Deb,

I know...pie is yummy and guess who ate almost all of it by herself???
I love that I am using something recycled and I am going to wrap the gifts in two flannel baby blankets I found that were still in the package for 99 cents.
It makes me happy to be resourceful.

  7. Hello dear Marie, are you in a safe area ? What we hear and read about the hurricane is so worrying.
Thank you for both recipes that I am going to try. Recently I ate a pumpkin salad, with a honey sauce. it tasted good.
The baby quilt is so lovely, every stitch like a thought of love. Very pretty fabrics too, I recognize some of them. Thanks again and take care, dear Marie.

  8. Hi Isabelle,

We are safe, just lots of wind. Thank you xo <3
The salad you had sounds delicious.
I wanted to use some of my 1930's reproduction fabrics because they are so cheerful. I hope to finish the quilt today.
